Output Characteristic of a Flashlamp Pumped Nd:YAG Laser at 1,414 nm and 1,444 nm

Abstract

|
Stimulated emission cross section of 1,444 nm is known to be higher than that of 1,414 nm. After calculation of the effective stimulated emission cross section for 1,414 nm and 1,444 nm using the reported spectroscopic data of the stimulated emission cross section for 1,414 nm and 1,444 nm, the output characteristic of a flashlamp pumped Nd:YAG laser at 1,414 nm and 1,444 nm was investigated. The calculated effective stimulated emission cross section of 1,444 nm was almost twice higher than that of 1,414 nm. However, the threshold input energy of 1,414 nm was 2.3 J lower than that of 1,444 nm and the output energy of 1,414 nm was 57 % higher than that of 1,444 nm with electrical input energy of 47 J. Our experimental results were not in agreement with reported spectroscopic data on stimulated emission cross section for 1,414 nm and 1,444 nm.
